According to reports in the Greek media, West Ham have increased their bid from £7m to £15m for Olympiakos star Kostas Fortounis.

The Hammers saw their first offer of €8m (just over £7m) rejected so they have returned with a more significant attempt at €17m (£15m), according to SDNA.

West Ham are keen on bringing in a new midfielder this summer. And Fortounis has been identified as a top target for the East London club.

Olympiakos rebuffed West Ham’s first offer but this improved bid has caught their attention. The Greek giants will now sit down with West Ham and negotiate this transfer.

Fortounis is in talks over a new contract at Olympiakos but West Ham’s interest could change things. Olympiakos might be tempted to sell at this price.

Fortounis is a versatile midfielder who operates centrally or on the wing. He started his career in Greece and is now back in his home country after a spell in Germany.

Between 2011 and 2014, the 26-year-old played for Kaiserslautern. The midfielder played 77 times in the two top divisions of German football, scoring three and providing five assists.

With 17 goals and 16 assists in 43 games this season, Fortounis has attracted interest. His total tally at Olympiakos stands at 67 goals and 60 assists in just under 200 games.

But the 42-cap Greece international is now a Hammers target. West Ham could make a big-money swoop for Fortounis this summer.
